The strike has ended!!

The Breastfeeders Local 106 is reporting that the 36 hour breastfeeding strike ended at 4:30 this morning. Both sides were happy to return to a normal schedule today.

"Thank god!" said union member ScienceMama. "I'm really happy not to have lost my job, and I'm very glad that conditions have improved."

President and CEO Bean, clearly happy with the settlement, commented "Ah-Da."

Good news.

Another thing that you can keep in mind (which you may have heard before and this just becomes unsolicited advice, in that case just ignore it), is that as the Bean grows older she may become more interested in other things than your breast when she's nursing. Like moving her head when she hears noices or even just to check what's going on behind her. Just because she becomes more an more interested in the world around her and more concious about other things than herself and then gets distracted.

Many of my friends have interpreted that as lack of nursing interest and start of a weaning phase. Maybe correctly so, but I'm not entirely convinced that it's true in many cases. I had that experience with the Goose when she was around 10 months. But as I kept offering her to nurse she regained interest and kept on nursing for months. Even when I was away for a week when she was around 12 months, I kept pumping once a day and she hadn't forgotten about it when I returned.

Obviously babies are different, but you just proved that you have the guts to fight through difficult phases. The Goose even learned not to bite me after a while, but that's another story.

Oh I'm so glad to hear things have resolved amicably! Union negotiations can be very stressful!

Also sorry to hear about the awful day you had Thursday! (I can only imagine the worry while waiting for the 6am pregnancy test results!!)
