Anyone up for a run?

The second half of 2008 was crazy for the Science family, and I personally let one of my favorite past times, running, fall by the way side. My mental health and my booty size have both suffered.

Rather than rest on the ample cushion of my laurels, I am rededicating myself to a new year of running. That means that starting January 1st (okay, really it will be January 2nd), I'll be putting up a new running counter. I will also be choosing a new half marathon to train for. I'm thinking April should be good timing.

I just want to invite anyone feeling similarly motivated to train with me. Pick a race in your area, whatever distance you like, for sometime in April or May. We'll train together virtually.

Need a training schedule? Check out Cool Running. They've got 12 week training program for anything from a 5K to the full marathon. Need a good way to track your runs and figure out running routes? Try Favorite Run.

Drop a comment, pick a race, lace up your kicks and let's get our butts in gear!

Dude, I'm not running any half mara, but maybe some orienteering event...

Good idea, my clothes totally do not fit anymore (too bad I have to go shopping ;-). I'm in.

and belated happy holidays!

My goal has been to begin weight training again. I have, however, also fallen a bit behind in terms of cardiovascular fitness. I need to stop blogging during running time.

Wanna come run the Chicago marathon with me?

PS: Or the NY one. Or, pretty much any marathon somewhere awesome with fantastic food.

I am in. Not for a race, though, but for the virtual motivation. I need to start running again.

My next half marathon is unfortunately already scheduled for Feb. 28. I have, however, been wanting to run a marathon...Dr. Isis, perhaps I could join you in Chicago?

Hmmm, I've been contemplating a 10K for a while (my hip problems prevent me from doing anything longer, alas!). Count me in!

Awesome, Sciencemama. I'm no runner, but I'll cheer you and everyone else on from the sidelines!

Yes, yes, yes!!

2008 was a crappy year for running...I missed all THREE of my target 1/2marathons due to recurrent shin splints and my booty size...let's just not talk about it OK?

Shin splints be damned! The month of January is dedicated to fitting back into my running clothes bc I am too cheap to go and buy new ones...at which point I will choose a race.

W00t!

Awesome! Re-posting my comment from Isis' place.

The most I have run is a 5k. That was 8 years back when I was 30 lbs lighter. But I have started running again last month. I'm aiming for the NY marathon for 2010 (provided they let me stay in this country until then). I joined a group called New York Road Runners Club, who organize the yearly NY marathon. They have various runs each month, and if I do a set of qualifying runs for 2009, I get a guaranteed entry into the 2010 NY marathon. I am currently running around 20 to 30 mins every other day at a 12 minute mile pace. I get bored running any longer than that on the treadmill. Starting around March or April next year, I want to start running one qualifying run each month and keep increasing the distance from 5k to 10k to 15k to half marathon. The goal is to complete a half-marathon in 2009. But if I am pushed by a really good group of similarly motivated folks, I may even try for a marathon next year.

So. What I'm saying in a long-winded way is - count me in for at least a half-marathon.

I want to run more, although I get home too late in the evening for that to work... solution? I will run on the weekend and then jump rope in the weeks.

(I know, it is not as the real running but it is cardio.... lots of cardio..)

happy holidays! and good luck with the half mara!

I'm supposed to do 18 miles today... that's like running to the Love Shack and then overshooting it by three whole miles. Wish me luck.

I'd been holding off on commenting for this one because I have been afraid to commit - but I am *def* going to run at least a half marathon this year - and *maybe* make the jump to full. Dr. Isis - I'd been thinking Chicago or Marine Corp...not New York because the lottery is too uncertain for me :).

Happy New Year and happy running everyone!

I'm in!

I am finally jumping back in after the baby and plan to start off with a 4K February, and work up to a sprint tri this summer.

I'm using Hal Hidon's 5K training program starting today.

I'm in! I want to run a 5K sometime this year.

I started the Couch to 5K program again last Saturday. Here's hoping I can make it past week 1 this time.

I'm in! I plan on running my first marathon in April. We'll see how I negotiate marathon training, baby and job.

OK, I'm - belatedly - in.

Would *like* to run a marathon. No idea how to get there yet, but we'll see. A couple of years yet before I hit 40...
